Blog Action Day…Mahatma Gandhi on “hunger” and pauperism in the world!

“I suggest that we are thieves in a way.

If I take anything that I do not need for my own immediate use and keep it, I thieve it from somebody else.

It is the fundamental law of Nature, without exception, that Nature produces enough for our wants from day to day; and if only everybody took enough for himself and nothing more, there would be no pauperism in this world, there would be no man dying of starvation.”

Mahatma Gandhi

“I suggest that we are thieves in a way”.

nice, but i guess the world is not simple as it seems.

I think poverty is also the law of the nature. the world is a thing that very complex, we cant say to each other that “we are thieves” tell what you do when you see many fruits are grow up on ur garden, would u let it be ? I know what you mean here is by giving to each other about what we have. But I just dont agree with the word “thieves”

Dear northeq:

Well, yes.
If you believe in Karma, then you know that we are born into the world in the set of circumstances we are, due to our past conduct and “spiritual” poverty.
So, you do have a point.
Mr. Gandhi said “thieves in a way” to demostrate that when we take more than we need, we may be depriving someone else of their share.
Why not take part of what we have and give it to others instead?
Thanks for your thoughtful comments.
Have a great blog action day.
